Fall is finally here (seriously, it was finally cool, albeit crazy windy today) and with the changing leaves comes a changing wardrobe. Fall is my favourite time to shop and I have a list of the top items I’m stocking up on this fall.
Suede Moto Jacket
This is the perfect item for fall, unless you live in a very wet climate. Water and suede don’t mix, so while I think everyone should have a suede moto jacket, a damn environment will fare better with leather than suede. But I digress. The moto jacket has got to be one of the most versatile items you can have in your closet and while there are a ton of great vegan leather and affordable options, unless you are morally opposed to suede, I’m going to suggest you save your pennies and invest in the real thing. Faux suede just hasn’t come as far as faux leather and it can look a bit more inexpensive. A good suede jacket will last you for years, so consider it an investment piece, but one that is more adorable than a designer purse. Pair it with jeans, dresses, skirts, joggers – you name it,; just about anything will work with a good suede moto jacket.
Here are my favourites, including the one I finally got my hands on (I cannot WAIT for it to arrive next week!):
A Wrap Coat
When the weather can be a bit unpredictable, a good wrap coat is a great option for multiple seasons. Wear it as a proper coat layered with cozy sweaters in the fall and early spring or use it as a cardigan in the colder winter months. Finding one that will keep you warm but isn’t too think is key. So is choosing a great neutral colour to make it a majorly versatile cool-weather item. A wrap coat will look endlessly chic with jeans or vegan leather leggings or a great sweater dress and over-the-knee boots.
These are some of my favourites (I recently ordered the Oatmeal coat – it is stunning!):
These fall/winter favourites have been a staple for the last few seasons and they aren’t going anywhere, which is a good thing because I may or may not have a few pairs, lol. A great pair of over-the-knee boots are a must have in everyone’s closet, whether you wear them with dresses and skirts or over jeans and leggings. The styles available now will even accommodate more athletic calves (like mine), so while it may take a bit of trial and error, just about anyone can wear these stylish boots. Even better – they will keep your legs warm and toasty on the coldest days!
Here are some of the best OTK boots I’ve found (all for under $250, which is a darn sight more affordable than the Stuart Weitzman ones I’ll be lusting over forever):
A Cozy, Oversized Sweater
Nothing says fall is here (and winter is coming) like a good oversized sweater. They keep you warm, they look so chic when paired with skinny jeans and pumps or with a good pair of boots and they are pretty much a necessity in colder climates. I rotate my sweaters yearly so that I don’t get bored – after all, I do have to wear them for months at a time! Consider investing in a cashmere sweater this fall; they feel so luxurious, will keep you warm, and are available for good prices at a variety of retailers these days, including Zara, H&M, and Simons. It’s the little things that make cold weather more bearable!
Here are some of the best cozy sweaters I’ve found so far:
A Good Scarf (Blanket or Otherwise)
Scarves are the best accessory in the fall and winter. They’re cozy, they’re soft, and they make any outfit look even better. I have an endless collection of blanket scarves and I don’t regret any of them. This year, I’m hoping to add a big cozy oblong scarf (similar to the Nordstrom one all the big bloggers had last year) for something different.
Here are some of my favourites this year:
Fall is finally here and I can’t wait to incorporate some of these items into my wardrobe (especially the suede jacket). These items will serve you well during the fall and into the winter when you can combine them with your favourite layers. What are some of your fall must-haves? Let me know in the comments below!
