With the weather starting warm up, our thoughts turn to spring and summer – warmer temperatures, green grass and sunshine, and if you’re lucky enough to live near the shore, deep blue water. I grew up on Prince Edward Island, surrounded by the sea and pristine beaches, so it’s natural that in the warmer months, I gravitate towards nautical theme items – navy and white, stripes, simple flats. It may be too early (and cool!) to don the shorts and sandals, but it’s never to early to pull out some stripes.
I love the simple elegance of a Breton striped sweater or top. This cotton/wool blend sweater that I recently purchased at the Gap (and I confess, I also grabbed in cream and red) is warm enough for the chill that’s still in the air, but not so bulky that I feel like I’m wearing a winter sweater. I love it with jeans or leggings (and of course, I paired it with my favourite vegan leather leggings from last week’s post) for now, but it will look equally good with a pair of denim cut offs when it warms up. My favourite booties and bag round out the look.
Although this sweater is showing as full price online right now, I snagged it in store for (I kid you not) $11.99!! It was on sale for $19.99, which was already a steal, but an extra 40% off made the deal even sweeter. I nearly bought it in every colour, but I stopped myself at two.
Nautical style is one of my favourite summer looks and being able to pull out some pieces in March is a definite plus. All I need now is to be closer to the water and I’m set.
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
