One of the best parts of being a blogger is getting to try new beauty products, especially when they’re from one of my favourite cosmetic companies. I was thrilled to arrive home from work a couple of weeks ago and discover an amazing package of NARS goodies that I have been testing and trying even since. Today I’m sharing my initial impressions on these pretty new products.
I LOVE the way matte lipstick looks, but I’ve had a hard time finding one that works well for me. The NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment is an exception for a few reasons. One, the colours are amazing – vibrant, perfect for fall and winter, and very complementary to a variety of skin tones. Two, the application is pretty easy with these beauties and if you do make a mistake, they can be removed more easily than others I have tried. Third, you have some options as the day goes on and the matte colour starts to fade. The subtle fading that happens right around the inside of the mouth with most matte lipsticks does occur (at least on me) but I found that this lip pigment responds very well to a light swipe of gloss to even things out. I have tried this trick with other matte liquid lipsticks with disastrous results, but I LOVED the way it turned out with the Powermatte Lip Pigment. Having some options with a lip product is also a huge plus in my books. I can start out with the matte finish and work to a glossier one as the day goes on. My go-to is Get It On (first swatch, below), but I am obsessed with Starwoman for special occasions. It is literally the most perfect red ever.
The Audacious Lipstick is pretty amazing – in fact, it’s hard to choose a favourite between the Lip Pigment and this saturated lipstick. It features a smooth and creamy consistency that I love and vibrant colours that are perfect for fall. Although Aya, a deep chocolate brown is a bit darker than I normally wear, I love it applied lightly over lip balm for a 1990s vibe (did I mention I adored all lip products that were brown toned during my teenage years?). Linda is an amazing shade for fall – a lighter caramel with a hint of orange that is surprisingly flattering. I’ve been wearing this one pretty much non-stop since I got it.
This is the first foundation stick I have tried and I am so hooked! I’ve talked a lot on the blog about how I’ve sworn off foundation, and while I still want to try and maintain a lighter base, this product is so great that I can’t help but use it. I ended up with a pretty nasty breakout due to the mineral powder foundation I tried a few weeks ago (see this post) which means that I have a lot of old marks that I need to cover up until they completely fade away. This foundation stick give a perfect amount of coverage that is blendable, buildable, and stays matte all day. I also love that it features a blender on one end so I don’t have to use a separate tool. The fewer things I have to keep track of in my makeup routine, the better!
Ok, I would never have thought I’d be a fan of purple mascara (!!) but I AM! Honestly! I pair the Audacious Mascara in Park City with my go-to Revlon Mascara for just a hint of colour that I swear makes my eyes pop. This would be great on its own for a night out, but I promise you that it can totally work for a daytime look when applied with a light hand (and in fact, I think you should try it!!).
NARS has always been a favourite beauty brand of mine, and these products have definitely reinforced that. From bold but wearable lips and eyes to perfectly matte skin, you can’t go wrong with the new collection.
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
