Sometimes you just really need a great cardigan and blanket scarf to keep warm. It’s been uncharacteristically cold and snowy in Edmonton lately (seriously, I know it’s the north, but it’s not normally this cold this early in October), which means I’ve been pulling out the heavier layers a lot earlier than normal. Fortunately, I picked up some amazing pieces this fall to go with my winter wardrobe staples. If you’re looking for some cozy pieces, I’m breaking down this full look below.
The Wilfred Free Backus Sweater is an investment piece (it retails for $165), but it is such a good one. This is the softest and warmest duster cardigan I’ve ever owned and although it is just making it’s blog appearance today, I have been wearing it non-stop for weeks. I love it over dresses, plaid, and jeans, or over a simple t-shirt, as I styled it today. Although the rich brown colour is no longer available online, you may still find it in store and it also comes in a perfect charcoal grey colour that would be equally chic!
The Blanket Scarf
This is probably the most popular blanket scarf around these days, a take on the original one by Zara that started it all nearly three years ago. You can find nearly identical variations on it all over the place, but the ModCloth version (the Willamette for the Weekend Scarf – which comes in multiple shades) is one of the best. At $24.99 USD, this is definitely a versatile piece to have in your closet.
On Tuesday, I wore a variation of this look, featuring my favourite Vegan Leather Leggings from Aritzia. I’ve written about these pants so much that I know I don’t have to say more. If you want to see a full breakdown of the Wilfred Free Daria Pant, check out this post.
Yesterday, in anticipation of the 10 cm of snow that is currently falling, I went with pure comfort. I know the “leggings as pants” debate may never be settled, but some days, you just really need comfortable pants. My favourites are the Leave Nothing But Footprints Suri Leggings – these bamboo beauties literally feel like you are wearing pyjamas (and let’s face it, some days, that’s really what all of us are looking for, even the style bloggers).
The Sleeveless Chambray Top
I featured this Joe Fresh top here and I still love it now that the weather has cooled down. It’s perfect for layering and comes in three colors – dark wash (my pick), light wash, and khaki green, each under $25.
The Black Booties
I adore my Nine West Jarrad booties, but they are sold out everywhere. Fortunately, I found a nearly identical pair, also from Nine West and under $200. I also love the Sam Edelman Petty ankle bootie, which is a great suede alternative and just as versatile.
Another blogger favourite that I have on heavier rotation than all of my designer bags combined because it is stylish, versatile, and all around perfect. The Street Level Reversible Tote is such a great all around bag – read more about it here.
A great layered outfit like this proves that you don’t have to sacrifice style for warmth or vice versa. You just need a few great pieces to make it all happen.
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
