If you’ve been following along with the blog and my social media accounts, you know that I am a bit of a manicure freak. I must have my nails done at all times, not only because I like the way they look when polished, but because as a former nail biter, it’s the best way to keep me from inadvertently chewing on them. Over the years, I’ve used a ton of products to help keep my manicure looking shiny and lasting for days or weeks (or at least until I get bored with whatever colour I have on) but it was only recently that I found the goldmine of them all, and even better, it’s under $10 a pop.
A good top coat will keep your nails looking fresh and will protect your polish. A better top coat will do all that AND help them dry quickly. I don’t know about you, but more times than not, despite my best efforts, I end up with smudges or blanket marks that make my manicure-obsessed brain go nuts. I was tired of my previous top coat, so when my blogger bestie Orane recommended the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat (which, to be fair, she had been raving about for a very long time), I decided that pre-vacation was the perfect time to pick it up.
I should have bought it months ago when she first mentioned it (though she’s been using it much longer than that). This top coat is AMAZING. Not only does it give you a gorgeous high shine finish, it actually helps the nail polish to dry more quickly and thoroughly than any other top coat I’ve used (including the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel top coat I previously loved – I’ve been less enamoured with it lately, as I am convinced they’ve changed the formula). Blanket marks and smudges are a thing of the past (provided I don’t give myself a manicure a half hour before bedtime, let’s be real) and the glossy finish last and lasts.
This top coat also goes on perfectly. It’s not the least bit gloopy, so I do recommend letting the excess really drain off the brush before applying, because there is nearly always more on the brush than I think. The thin consistency initially made me suspicious because I haven’t had good results with thin top coats before, but this one is a game changer. It made my summer go-to polish look even more amazing and smooth than I could have expected, which is a tall order when it comes to opaque colours. And I can tell you that with this top coat, I’ve had zero chips from my polish after even a week of wear, which is practically unheard of for me. I’m the kind of gal who has to change her polish the second I see a teeny tiny chip, so for me to have a manicure last over a week, is pretty remarkable.
Yes, I’m raving about it because it truly is the best (this post is not sponsored in any way). It stood up to my month-long vacation, including multiple trips to the beach and climbing a mountain (which required the use of my hands because I’m a wee bit clumsy and I have a fear of heights)! It worked even better on my pedicure, which I didn’t update for nearly six weeks, and did I mention I did a ton of walking on my vacation?? Normally that wreaks havoc on a pedi, but not with this top coat.
The Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat is only $7.47 CAD at Walmart (most affordable price in Edmonton) and is worth every penny. I honestly can’t recommend it highly enough!
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
