Skinny jeans are probably my biggest wardrobe staple. I wear jeans, in a variety of washes and cuts at least four days of the week, so finding a pair that fit great, are versatile, and come in at an affordable price point is important to me. I’ve tried all kinds of denim brands and know which ones I need to stay away from (GAP, for example just does not make jeans that fit my body well), which ones are tried and true (American Eagle never disappoints when it comes to fit), and which ones I chose when I’m looking for specific features (Hollister legging jeans have been my go-to for wearing under boots, so long as the pocket details are minimal, which can be hard to find at times). So the opportunity to try out a brand new to me, Mott + Bow, was pretty exciting for this jean aficionado.
Mott + Bow is a New York based denim brand that specializes in premium, handcrafted jeans at a very reasonable price – normally around $100. This is pretty reasonable for higher end denim, so I was very intrigued by the product. After pouring over the website, I chose the Mid-Rise Skinny Jane in Faded Medium/Dark Blue. I liked the slightly more indigo hue to this pair, rather than some of the more muted washes I usually wear. I also love that they were a mid-rise, because let’s face it – I’m over 35, so low-rise is NOT for me, but I’m also not a huge fan of high rise jeans (don’t even get me started on the mom jeans trend – ugh!).
These jeans definitely fit small, so I recommend going at least one size up. I took my normal size and I will say that they fit great in the waist and thighs, but I had to break them in in my calf area. Now bear in mind that I have more muscular calves (which is hilarious since my main form of exercise is wandering my office looking for doughnuts) so if you have slim legs, you likely won’t have this issue. Had I sized up, they would be perfect. That said, what is great about Mott + Bow is that when you order from them, you chose TWO sizes of jeans. They ship you both, you try them on at home, and you send back the pair that doesn’t fit using the included pre-paid shipping form. I absolutely love that this takes some of the pressure off ordering online and ensures that you get a great fit!
I have styled these jeans multiple ways, with tunic sweaters, over the knee boots, and ….and they have proven to be pretty amazing every time I wear them – they are slimming like no other pair of jeans I own. I have no idea why or how, but they suck everything and hold it in place, giving you a clean silhouette that looks fantastic. This variety of washes and cuts available is also great, and the price point is significantly less than a lot of other designer jeans. Consider me sold!
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
