Maybe it’s just me, but now that it’s mid-August, I’ve been in a bit of a style/weather rut. I don’t want summer to end. I want warm temperatures and sunshine and occasional thunderstorms that light up the evening sky to continue, pretty much indefinitely. But at the same time, I hate most of my summer clothes (ok, that’s more dramatic sounding than it needs to be, lol) and I only want to wear the fall things. In fact, as I suggested on Instagram recently, I’m pretty much done wearing shorts for 2017. (Unless we get some kind of crazy fall heat wave.)
Anyway, I want to wear all the fall things, but I don’t want summer to end, so I’ve just decided to combine both for the time being in hopes that it will extend the rather short Fall season here in Alberta. I mean really, it could be snowing in six weeks. UGH.
I was inspired to pair crisp white denim with autumn tones by the lovely Jade Scott of A Spoonful of Style. I tend to think of pairing white denim with lighter shades (like this photo) or with black (like here) so when I saw a recent IG pic she shared with brown and white together, I was drawn to it because it was different. Conveniently, I spotted a perfect rust brown sweater at Winners just a day before, so I knew I had to go grab it quick!
I love the way the rich brown makes the white denim really pop in way that other colours just can’t do. It’s such a contrast, and an unexpected one, that it really works. It was also a great way to incorporate fall shades with summer staples for a perfect late-summer look that I really love.
Although my sweater was a Winners find that I can’t link (or guarantee you’d find in store), I’ve found some great alternatives that would be perfect for recreating this look:
Some other great fall-inspired shades that would pair well with white denim are olive or forest green. Here are some options to consider:
I know that traditionally, we’re supposed to stop wearing white after Labour Day, but I am so glad that this idea is slowly being ignored because I LOVE wearing white all year long. There is something especially chic about wearing crisp white denim as the leaves begin to change colours and we embrace autumn hues. I find that it looks somewhat unexpected and even brighter than during the summer months.
What do you think about white denim after Labour Day? Or how about white paired with fall colours like brown or olive green? I think it’s a great way to embrace the cooler weather while still making the most of what late-summer weather we may get! (Not to mention that white denim will keep you cooler on those fall days when the sun suddenly warms things up!)
With fall just around the corner, I am starting to plan out my fall wardrobe, but I have to admit that there aren’t a lot of trends that are really grabbing my attention. I’m ready to embrace sweaters and blanket scarves and over-the-knee boots, but beyond that, I’m not feeling very inspired, which is not something I usually experience. I’d love to know what you’re thinking about fall fashion – are there any items you’re dying to wear or new trends you’re intrigued by? Let me know in the comments below; I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
