The holiday season is the perfect time to dress up, be fancy, and break out the sequins.
It’s also the perfect time to wear pyjamas all day, drink coffee under cozy blankets, and relax, but that’s another blog post.
I’m excited to share a few holiday looks with you over the next couple of weeks, and today I’m starting with an outfit that combines two of my favourite things – plaid and sequins. A sequin skirt can instantly feel very luxe and dressy, but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, worn with the right pieces, you can easily dress it down and make it appropriate for daytime.
For this look, I paired my J. Crew sequin skirt with the plaid shirt I have been obsessing over for weeks (and that is on nearly half the Instagram pages that I follow). It’s not hard to understand why this J. Crew plaid shirt is so loved – the weight and construction make it just a bit dressier than the traditional flannel style, and the colours are bright and cheerful (and perfect for Christmas). I’ve been waiting for this shirt to arrive in the mail since Black Friday and it made me crazy that it took so. very. long to get here – it was waiting for me when I got home on Monday. (Ask my five year old how much I’ve been whining about how long it took to ship – thanks Canada Post.) Sadly, this shirt is so popular that it is nearly sold out now (there are a couple of sizes left – the link is below), but hopefully J. Crew will recognize how loved it is and re-issue it (or at least one that is very similar). That said, it’s easy to recreate this look with any cotton plaid shirt, but sticking to the red and green palate will definitely make it a bit more holiday-appropriate.
I put together some options for plaid shirts and sequin skirts, to make shopping this look a bit easier:
A little bit of sparkle in my necklace accents the colours of the shirt and gives a touch of glam and heeled booties are appropriately stylish for walking through the snow.
This look is perfect for a daytime holiday party, visiting with family and friends or hosting Christmas dinner. (I wore this to work, for no reason other than I wanted to dress festively. On a Tuesday.) I have a few more holiday looks to share and can’t wait for you to see them. But for now, consider pairing a dressier piece like a sequin skirt with your favourite plaid shirt for a just-dressy-enough look this holiday season.
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
