I mentioned last weekend that with the Old Navy Friends and Family sale coming up, and given some of the cute things I picked up this past weekend, I would share my list of the top items you need to snag during this sale. I’ve rounded up my favourites, including the items I already bought and the ones that are on my list to grab during the sale as well! (Just click on the photos displayed under each section to be linked to the product.) Don’t worry if you didn’t sign up for Old Navy emails and get your special F & F code – these items are still 30% off even without it!
Everyone needs a plaid shirt, especially around the holidays. While I’ve long been a fan of the J. Crew Plaids, they’re a bit harder to get around Edmonton these days, so when I stumbled on the beautiful (and cozy!) flannel plaid shirts, I knew at least one (and eventually two or three) needed to come home with me. They are incredibly soft, wear well under a sweater (as shown above), and can easily be dressed up or down. Pair it with a simple black skirt and some pearls for a holiday party or throw it on with some jeans, a cozy vest, and booties for a sleigh-ride or trip to the tree farm.
I have a lot of coats, but I justify this with the simple fact that I live in the most northerly city of 1 million (just about) in North America. We have a lot of cold weather, so I could write a whole BOOK just on the various coats I’ve needed and worn in Edmonton. But I was looking for a simple black coat, the kind I could wear open when the weather was slightly less chilly, but could still bundle up with, something perfect for late fall and early spring. I found two that I loved at Old Navy and you should definitely pick one of them up during the Friends and Family sale, or like RIGHTNOW. While I love the moto style (and the various colours it was available in), I ultimately went with the simple wool-blend coat because it was perfect for throwing on with a variety of outfits and wearing either open or buttoned up with an oversized scarf.
Old Navy consistently has the BEST affordable holiday PJs. I love them every year and every year, they sell out quickly, especially the thermal legging and top sets. This year, stock up early and don’t miss out (like I did on so many cute patterns last November/December). They also have a great selection of cozy plaid bottoms you can pair with the thermal tops as well. I highly recommend them, both as PJs and as loungewear. (Trust me, you’ll want to live in them.) They do tend to fit small, so bear that in mind when choosing your size (I go with medium bottoms and small tops in these).
You always need long sleeve tees and neutral cardigans, so get them now. I love the EveryWear Curved Hem Tees as great layering basics. And my favourite neutral cardigan is still available in several colours, perfect for those chilly days and nights ahead.
Ok, so ON has some EXTREMELY CUTE plaid shoes in that are perfect for holiday (did I mention that I fully believe that Holidays + Plaid = True Love) parties, especially if you don’t have to trudge through the snow!! I can’t resist them, even though I know I won’t be able to wear them as much as my counterparts to the south. And I am a sucker for blanket scarves, so I was thrilled to see that ON has some great varieties available now that will go so well with those coats I mentioned above!
And of course, there are still dresses, and jeans, and pullovers, and activewear, not to mention all the adorable kid stuff, so basically, you need to be ready to go this Saturday morning when the deals start happening. Now that you know my picks, don’t forget to bookmark them so you’re ready to start shopping as soon as the major deals hit. This sale is often better than Black Friday, so shop early, get your holiday wardrobe started, and then enjoy the cooler temps in some cozy deals! And let me know what you bought during the sale, I’d love to see your picks!
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
