I switch up my makeup routine a lot, depending on how my skin is feeling and reacting to the environment. In the fall, as things tend to get drier (which my skin always overreacts to), I usually need to wear more foundation to even out my skin tone and to cover up pesky spots. By early January, my skin has usually become acclimatized to the winter weather and is more stable, meaning I can put away the heavy foundations and enjoy wearing fewer products. After receiving some questions on Instagram yesterday, I thought I would share my go-to products to achieve a no (or limited) makeup look, as seen here, while still looking polished.
I use foundation sparingly at this time of year (and in the summer), choosing this one for a bit of coverage as needed on my chin. For spot correction, I use this concealer stick ALWAYS. I then use this NYX powder foundation all over my face to create an even tone and add a bit of this highlighter on my forehead, nose, edge of my chin, and just above my upper lip to create a bit of glow.
My brows are micro bladed (read more here), so I use a sweep of this brow gel to set them:
I am obsessed with the NARS Wanted Palette because of the rosy hues and the mix of matte and shimmer shadows. It also features a perfect dark brown shade for lining my eyes, my preference over black liquid liner for a natural look.
Blush is a must every single day because I basically look like a sickly ghost without it. Lately, I am loving these two blush shades from NARS – I start with the rose colour and use the champagne shade over it for a bit of highlight.
Honestly, I use whatever mascara sample I have at the moment. Currently, it’s this one:
NYX Butter Gloss is the BEST every day lip colour. It’s moisturizing, not overly concentrated and lasts very well. Even better – it’s a total steal at under $10 a pop. My current fave is this shade:
A note on skin care – in order to keep my skin happy, I have to use a heavier moisturizer in the evening and use a lighter version with sunscreen during the day. My picks for nighttime and daytime are below:
While it may seem like a lot of steps for a no makeup look, I promise you that this routine takes me about ten minutes total. And half of it can easily be done at your desk if you’re running late for work.
Thanks to everyone who sent me questions about my makeup routine on IG – if you have any other questions or comments, I’d love to hear from you! Leave me a note in the comment section below.
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
