Well, 2017 is nearly at an end and to do a bit of a recap post, I thought I’d share my favourite purchases of the year. There were so many things I loved this year (hello, sweaters) and I initially thought it would be hard to narrow things down, but in the end, there were ten things that really stood out to me, as items that I will (or already do) wear again and again. Although I may do a separate beauty post early in the new year, I am including one makeup pick on this list, as I’ve worn at least one element from it every day since I got it, its just that good! So here it is, my list of the top ten items I picked up this year.
Goodnight Macaroon Carina OTK Boots
The Carina otk boots by Goodnight Macaroon are 100% my number one pick. They are the most versatile, comfortable, and easy to care for boots I’ve ever owned. They are hands down the best otk boots I’ve ever tried and I honestly think they are so good that I officially took the Stuart Weitzman otk boots off my wishlist. At a third of SW price, these can’t be beat – the vegan suede is the best out there, the heel height is perfect, and the pointed toe adds a dressy touch that I love. They do run small, so I recommend sizing up one full size, and while they won’t fit all calf widths, mine are quite large and I have been able to wear these no problem. They also come in cognac (the Marlo boots) and black (the Ellis boots) and I want both of them because they are simply perfect.
BLANKNYC Suede Moto Jacket in Sandstoner
The BLANKNYC suede moto jacket is definitely my favourite clothing item of the year. I had my eye on it for almost a year before picking it up and I wish I hadn’t waited so long. The colour is the perfect nuetral, the fit is true to size, and it’s probably the most versatile jacket I’ve ever owned. The quality is amazing for the under $250 (regular price) price tag and I want it in multiple colours now. I am leaning towards the cognac colour at the moment, but it’s been so hard to decide which colour I love the most that I haven’t added it to my cart just yet.
Hollister Low Rise Jean Leggings
The low rise jean leggings from Hollister are my most worn pair of jeans (so much so that I picked up another, identical pair and then opened up the distressing on my old pair to change up the look), and for good reason. They are ridiculously comfortable, feel like pyjamas on, and have the perfect finish to be dressed up or down. They come in a variety of washes, but this dark distressed version is my favourite. They are the best for wearing under boots because they aren’t too thick, but the softness of the material makes them a great choice for cold days because they don’t get cold like other jeans. They’re already a great price, but when you get them on sale (like right now), they’re even better!
NARS Wanted Palette
The NARSissist Wanted Palette by NARS has been my most-used makeup palette this year. I love the pink-based neutral colours and the sparkling highlighters, especially because the colours are so concentrated. This palette was originally available for a limited time in November, but was just released across North America in time for Christmas and it’s definitely something you want to pick up. Although I love my Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette, this one has been my go to since I got it and I won’t be tiring of it any time soon. It’s also an amazing price for a palette of this quality and the packaging is great too!
Steve Madden Restler OTK Boots in Cognac
The Steve Madden Restler boots in Cognac were my first purchase of 2017 and I still love them. These are a bit more casual than the Goodnight Macaroon Marlo boots, but they are an amazing find for real suede and the colour is perfect. I found one retailer that still carries these exact boots, but Steve Madden also offers a comparable pair in the Novella Cuffable Boot which are on sale for an amazing price as well. These boots fit true to size and are extremely comfortable, even when worn for hours and hours.
H&M Striped Jersey Dress
This striped dress from H&M got a TON of wear this year, during all four seasons. The heavy jersey is perfect with tights and a sweater during the winter and also works well for cooler summer days. It could easily be dressed up or down and was super easy to care for. While the striped version is hard to find now, it is available in black, grey, and green and is just as versatile.
Aerie Cable Knit Sweater
This pretty cable knit sweater in the most gorgeous green colour (also available in tons of other colours, including baby pink, navy, ivory, and red) is one of my favourite finds of the last few weeks. I’ve worn it a ton of times and received so many compliments on it. Better yet, it’s under $50 and available in nearly all sizes (only XXS is sold out). I’m wearing a size Small, but you could definitely size up a bit for a looser fit. I absolutely love it.
Cambridge Satchel Poppy Bag
The Cambridge Satchel Poppy Bag was the first investment handbag I picked up in about three years and it was totally worth it. This gorgeous oxblood bag is a classic piece that will last for years. I love the versatility of the colour (it’s seriously stunning) and the structure of the bag – you can wear it as a top handle bag or a crossbody. The Poppy Bag comes in a variety of stunning leather finishes and colours and is available exclusively in North America via Shopbop.
SheIn Waffle Knit Sweater
This gorgeous cognac sweater from SheIn is a more affordable version of a similar sweater by Free People and the Retta Sweater from Goodnight Macaroon (also an affordable option, but it sells out quickly). The quality is quite good for the price ($28) and is a perfect option for cold days. Since it’s a bit shorter than other sweaters I wear, I like to pair it with a curved-hem stripe shirt underneath. I just received this one before Christmas, but I can already tell that I’ll be wearing it lots during the cold winter months.
Le Chateau Wrap Coat in Oatmeal
I picked up this gorgeous wrap coat from Le Chateau in the fall when lighter layers were still a good idea. I can’t wear it right now (it’s -46 degrees Celsius with the windchill) but I love it when the weather is a bit warmer, especially with dresses and otk boots. It’s classic and a total style steal at under $100. It also comes in several colours, but the versatile oatmeal shade was my favourite (hello neutrals!). This coat fits very large – I am wearing an XXS and I still have enough room for a heavier sweater.
I have to admit that it was hard to narrow down my favourite items of the year. I love shopping and of course have so many other items I picked up this year (I wouldn’t be much of a fashion and beauty blogger if I hadn’t) but these are all ones I reach for again and again and I know that I will into 2018 as well.
