A couple of months ago, I was invited to try Claré Blanc Minerals, a relatively new European makeup line that offers everything from foundations, luminizers, eye shadows, and blushes. With a focus on natural ingredients, Claré Blanc Minerals is formulated without parabens, silicone, and other artificial ingredients that can speed up the aging process. I also appreciated that they share more about what you will find in their products, including where the ingredients are sourced and how they are used (you can read more here).
This was my first time trying mineral makeup and while I was very excited to give it a whirl, I have to admit that despite seeing a number of fellow bloggers successfully use it, I really struggled with mastering the proper application techniques for mineral foundation. Because of that, I kind of gave up on the products for a bit (with the exception of the Highlighter – more to come on that later). But lately I’ve been using them a bit more in conjunction with my existing makeup routine, and I’m loving the results. So, here’s my two cents on the three key products I tried.
Using the Superbalanced Foundation (my shade is No. 540 Warm/Medium) on its own hasn’t been an option for me so far. Honestly, I find it doesn’t give me the coverage that I need at the moment. That said, I do think it will be great for summer, when I just want a bit of sheer coverage. For now, I’ve been using it over my regular Smashbox foundation (read more here) for a bit more coverage. I’ve recently suffered a few nasty breakouts on my chin that have left me with hard to cover red-brown marks, a part of the lovely healing process. When combined with my liquid foundation, the mineral foundation gives a nice even coverage without looking cakey or too thick, which I do like. I also love that it provides SPF 15 coverage, which is perfect for someone like me who regularly forgets to apply sunscreen (I know I need more protection than SPF 15, but hey, it’s a start!). I’m hopeful that when summer comes and when my skin is a bit more clear, it will look great on its own – I’ll keep you posted!
The Matte Mineral Blush in No. 701 Peach Pop provides a beautiful, peachy glow that is perfect for summer. I found it a bit too orange-toned for the winter months when I tend to be more pale and need a blush with rose undertones, so I have only used it a handful of times. I do enjoy that it is a concentrated colour and that a little goes a long way. One of my biggest makeup pet peeves is when my blush fades too quickly and this one lasts all day, so that’s a definite plus. It has a light matte finish, so it pairs well with the luminizer below. Once I have a bit more colour (emphasis on a bit – see this post), I think it will be my perfect summer blush.
As pictured above, I also received this gorgeous foundation brush, which honestly, I use more for the blush and luminizing powder – I prefer a slightly more dense brush for the foundation. But as my skills improve, maybe that will change. In any case, it is the softest makeup brush I’ve ever owned and definitely a quality piece.
The Luminizing Powder is my favourite of the Claré Blanc products, a holy grail of luminizers. My shade is No. 22 Be Mine and I love it. The powder offers the loveliest highlight without the sparkle or glitter of some other luminizing products. I wear it regularly in a C formation from the top of my cheekbones, up to my forehead, with another little swipe on my cupids bow and the bridge of my nose. Again, a little goes a long way, and I have to remember that – I love a luminous look and sometimes I am a bit too heavy handed with highlighting products. Again, this one goes a long way and is perfect for any season.
Claré Blanc products are available online with shipping to North America. The one downside is that all prices are in Euros, so you do need to bear the currency exchange rate of the day in mind. The packaging is lovely and reflective of a quality product, which I truly believe this is. I’m definitely keeping all of these items in my makeup bag this summer!
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
Please note that I received these products for review purposes. That said, this review reflects my honest opinion of the Claré Blanc products I received and how they are working for me.
