I know, I know – another beauty review so soon? But I just had to review this new drugstore liquid lipstick ASAP.
Matte lips are definitely having a moment, and because of their popularity, more cosmetic companies are jumping on the matte lip bandwagon. To be quite honest, I usually stay away from matte lips, because Alberta (which literally feels like the driest place next to the desert most of the time) – my lips can dry out pretty quickly, so I like to stick to moisturizing lipsticks and balms.
That said, I stumbled upon Revlon’s Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour during a recent Shoppers Drug Mart run and I was intrigued (partly because they were on sale for half price, along with my favourite lip gloss in Sky Pink, last seen here). Since I was a bit skeptical about how it would feel on my lips, I was happy to save a bit – plus we all know how I love a great beauty deal.
I chose a pinky-nude (shocking!), largely because I tend to leave any darker colours for the winter months and spring is in full swing in Alberta. Although the colour choice is more limited than other Revlong lip products, there is a nice range of beautiful pinks, corals, and deep shades, as well as the lighter nude that I chose, labelled HD Seduction.
I tried it out yesterday and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The formula doesn’t feel dry or flaky, or too waxy like some lipsticks. The colour lasted well through my (massive) cup of tea, and after a couple of hours, it looked just as good as when I first applied it. The colour was exactly what I was looking for – subtle enough for a light, summery look, but noticeable enough to make my overall look more polished than just a quick swipe of balm.
Although I wasn’t sure what I would think (and wasn’t too bothered, given the sale price), I’m actually pleasantly surprised about how much I like this product. I would definitely recommend trying it out – even at full price ($12.99), it’s a still a steal compared to some other matte products out there. And I am keen to try the darker shade with fall and winter inevitable roll around again.
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
