I often get asked about where I shop, so I thought I’d start a little series on the blog to talk about some of my favourite stores and share some of my top picks from each of them. It’s no secret that I love shopping and I chose my items from a variety of retailers, big and small, international and Canadian-based. I also think it’s important to emphasize that I chose where I shop and what I wear based on what I love, and not just on whether there is an affiliate link available (which, let’s face it, is not something that can be said for a lot of bloggers out there). So today, I’m starting off with my current favourite store, Simons.
Simons is a Canadian retailer based in Montreal that has only expanded outside of Quebec in the last ten years. Edmonton was lucky enough to be chosen for the first expansion store, at West Edmonton Mall, and recently, a second location opened in Londonderry Mall on the city’s north side. The best part of Simons, in my humble opinion, is the range of price points for their products, from affordable style steals to the best of high end designers like Paul Smith, 3.1 Philip Lim, and Diane Von Furstenberg. For women, the products are divided into three price/style areas: Twik, for trendy items; Contemporaine for classic items; and Icone for higher-end styles. I tend to stick to the Twik and Contemporaine areas, which provides me with a nice balance of popular styles and classic pieces that I can wear season after season. In that sense, it’s very similar to Nordstrom, though you won’t find kid styles at Simons – they stick to teens and older. And while I was convinced that they did not ship to the US, I was totally wrong – shipping is available to the 48 contiguous states, and right now they have a great free shipping promo that applies to US customers as well! So if you’re based in the US, keep reading, cause you can enjoy the benefits of Simons too!
Ok, so I couldn’t share ALL the things I love, so I’m focusing on the areas I’ve been drawn to lately and some of the items that I’ve added to my closet this fall.
I am officially declaring Simons the winner of Best in Sweaters. Seriously, there are so many amazing sweaters at so many great price points this year, from trendy pieces that will run you around $30 each, to more investment pieces that will last you for many seasons to come. My sweater collection has doubled (at least!) this year because of Simons (oops). From cardigans to pullovers to ponchos, they truly have it all, and when you live in a freezing cold climate, you need them.
These are a few of my favourites (I already own numbers one and two in multiple colours and will be picking up number three soon!):
Skirts and Dresses:
Need a new skirt or dress for fall? Simons has PLENTY of them, including my favourite suede skirt and floral print dress (as shown below). I actually found it quite hard to pick just one when I was looking for a fall-inspired dress to pair with my favourite OTK boots and suede jacket (in fact I may have to go back for another!). My suede skirt is available in black or brown and it’s such a great fall/winter staple. I also found a unique option is your looking for a plaid dress, as shown below.
I’m including shoes here, because Simons has a limited, albeit very awesome shoe section and because this is where I picked up my most favourite OTK boots ever (seen here). They also have a huge collection of scarves, hats, bags, and jewelry, so you can find everything you need to create the perfect look in one store. Some of my favourite items they have this fall are:
FYI – I tended to share more casual items, because that is what I gravitate towards in my everyday style. However, if you’re looking for workwear or basics like pencils skirts and blouses, Simons totally has you covered. Their professional looks are perfect for any office and are priced just as well as their more causal fashion.
Of course, I didn’t even touch on pants, jeans, outerwear or intimates, but Simons has amazing sections for all of these as well, as you can see from browsing their site. And the men’s section is very extensive compared to other retailers, which is great to see – while things are getting better, men have always had fewer options for stylish pieces at a great price point and Simons definitely strives to provide that for the Canadian market. Overall, I love that Simons provides great quality at every price point, gives you lots of options under one roof (or via one website), and is Canadian-based. If you’ve visited or shopped online with Simons before, let me know what you think about my current favourite store in the comments below!
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
