Recently, I had the pleasure of helping to review photos for the August 7 edition of the Everywear page for the Edmonton Journal. After sharing my idea of light and airy summer neutrals with the Everywear team, I was flattered to be asked to help curate the page. Few things say summer to me as much as light colours like cream, white and blush and airy pieces like sundresses and linen pants. Wearing white is one of the best parts of summer.
INTERRUPTION – I learned this week that summer whites can pose a problem for those of us who tend to get a little (or in my case, a lot – I know, I’m bad) bit of colour from the sun. Suddenly, my white and nude underthings (like seriously, is there a polite way to say my bra?) were glowing under my white shirts and dresses! So if you tend to get a bit of colour in the summer, you might want to stay away from white or pale pink bras under white pieces and go for a deeper nude colour. Unless you like the glowing bra thing. To each their own.
Anyway, as I was saying, I think wearing white and light colours is one of the best parts of summer. I love white and cream sundresses or ivory sleeveless shirts with lacy detailing, especially with a pair of distressed denim cut offs. They keep you cool and look chic at the same time. Throw on a great floppy hat or fedora (my personal favourite) and a smaller bag and you’re ready to sip sangria on a patio or enjoy a picnic in the park.
There are still lots of great pieces like this available at Aritzia and Forever 21 (even if the dreaded F-word is around the corner) and there are some great sales to check out if you are looking for some summery neutrals.
And if you haven’t checked out the Everywear page in the Edmonton Journal yet, make sure you do. (Especially this week, but that’s a shameless plug for my contribution!) Each week they feature local fashionistas and style bloggers, as well as great street style captured around our beautiful city. It’s great to see a community coming together like this to share their favourite fashion and style inspiration with others. Go to http://www.everywearedmonton.com/ to sign up and see some of the fantastic looks that are featured every Friday. And be sure to tag your Instagram pictures with #everywearyeg or #everywear to be featured in future pages – the Everywear team is always on the lookout for new bloggers, fashionistas and style enthusiasts to feature. If you are looking for style inspiration, there is definitely tons of it around Edmonton. (Even at minus forty!)
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
