Summer means shorts, and this year, distressed and cut-off shorts are hugely popular. I had a very hard time find a pair that suited me (and weren’t designed for a sixteen year old), because I am very picky. After a bit of a search, I found a fantastic pair at Aritizia, on sale for almost half price (even better).
Although initially I purchased the shorts thinking they would be great for pool days and running around the park with a busy four-year-old, they have turned out to be a wardrobe staple – so much so that I’m almost ashamed to say how often I wear them. There are tons of varieties available, and at many different price points, from budget-friendly versions at Forever 21 to the highly popular One Teaspoon versions, available at smaller boutiques (in Edmonton, you can find them a Shades of Grey Boutique and Who Cares? Wear) and at Aritzia. I went with a pair by Talula that were on for $35 (yay sales!) and I have not been disappointed.
I wear these things with almost anything, and that’s why I love them – they are so versatile. Here are some of my favourite pairings:
Cut-offs and Gingham:
Who doesn’t love gingham? Pair this look with sandals of all kinds (gladiators, dressy thongs, Birkenstocks) or a great pair of white Converse Chuck Taylors for a chic, but easy-going look.
Cut-offs and Plaid:
I scored an adorable pastel plaid shirt (recently featured on my Instagram page) at Edmonton’s Red Ribbon Boutique for $10. I kid you not. I love the combination of girly pastels with distressed denim, and a shirt with long sleeves that you can roll up is perfect for those slightly cooler (or unpredictable) summer days. I usually add comfy sandals, like leather thongs, and a fedora (like my favourite from Aritzia, pictured above) to finish the look.
Cut-offs and Lace:
I love combining edgy and girly, so it stands to reason that I love lacy tops with these shorts.Add a great pair of high-heeled sandals or wedges and a sleek clutch for a more polished look daytime look.
Cut-offs Dressed Up:
For those hot summer nights when you want to be dressed up but keep (and look!) cool, I love distressed cut-offs topped with an elegant sleeveless blouse and streamlined jacket. This is one of my favourite summer looks, which is featured below. Adding my favourite leopard heels and quilted Rebecca Minkoff bag complete the look. I love how this one worked out and I would love to know what you think. Leave me a comment and let me know you thoughts or how you like to wear your distressed denim shorts.
It may be August already, but it’s not too late to find some great distressed denim shorts to incorporate into your summer wardrobe.
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
