Wine, burgundy, marsala. Whatever you want to call it, I have been looking for the perfect shade of dark lipstick for a very long time. Deep lip colours look amazing in the fall, especially when paired with more minimal makeup and autumnal shades like olive green and chocolate, or jewel tones like royal blue and deep red. I have had a really hard time finding the perfect dark lip shade for some time, but I took a chance on NYX Simply Vamp Lip Cream in Aphrodisiac and I could not be happier. This is an amazing (and affordable!) dark lip colour that looks beautiful when applied and has a creamy, moisturizing formula that I absolutely love. Unlike the many matte lip colours out there that leave my lips dry and uncomfortable, the creamy formula feels heavenly soft and the shade is a perfect deep wine colour.
Here’s a couple of my tips for application, depending on the look you are trying to achieve:
For a chic and more dramatic look, I apply this to bare lips. I start by lining my lips with a very light nude lip liner. I love the NYX Wonder Pencil because it works well for a variety of applications – I apply it around my lips after foundation to cover some minor pigmentation issues around my lips (thanks to too much time in the sun). It’s also great for covering minor blemishes, and it makes a great highlighter for just below my brown bone. I line my lips lightly with the Wonder Pencil, then carefully use the tip of the lip cream to line them again before filling in. Because it is a chubby pencil, you don’t need to use a lip brush to apply, though you definitely could. Because I like a very creamy finish (as you might have figured out, I am not a matte lip fan, but that’s just me), I apply either a bit of lip gloss for a shinier finish, or balm for an even creamier finish.
For more of a lip stain look, I love this lip cream over a nice balm. I use an organic lavender balm from our local farmers market. I apply the nude liner, as above, then add balm. I then lightly apply the lip cream for a berry-stained look that is more subtle.
If you happen to have any colour go outside your lip liner, the Wonder Pencil or your preferred concealer pencil will work to fix up any smudges. Because dark colours have a tendency to bleed, always use a lip liner before applying to keep the look clean and sharp.
The Simply Vamp Lip Cream comes in several shades, but I prefer the Aphrodisiac shade because of its perfect wine colour and creamy finish. The other finishes are a bit too frosted for my taste, but that’s just me. This product does last well, though you will need a few touch ups throughout the day. For the $8.99 price tag, I absolutely love it and will be wearing it lots this fall. I may love my high-end beauty products, but when I can find a perfect lip shade for less than ten bucks, I am a happy gal.
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
