In Edmonton, we’re just starting to feel the chill in the air.
Ok, fine. Today was actually freezing, tomorrow is supposed to be worse and there’s already been snow in Calgary.
The cool winds of fall bring lots of fantastic things – changing leaves, Thanksgiving, sweaters and scarves, and if they’re your thing, Pumpkin Spice Lattes. (I tried. I really tried, but I just do not like them. I’ll stick to my seasonal Peppermint White Mochas, thanks.) This time of year, I adore bundling up in cozy cardigans of all kinds and fortunately, there are some fantastic styles currently available. Dolman sleeves are popular this fall, and I love them not only because they update the traditional long line cardigan, but also because they are universally flattering. Seeing them around was the inspiration for me bringing out the cozy and soft cardigan that I knit myself when my little guy was a baby (which feels like FOREVER ago).
For the look pictured above, I paired my handmade cardigan with one of my favourite easy-going dresses and riding boots for a perfect fall transitional outfit. I will be sad when it gets too cold to wear this dress (which I have a feeling is coming soon), but I am glad that oversized, relaxed cardigans look great with so many other pieces in my closet, especially skinny jeans and my favourite leather leggings. Versatile and keeps me from freezing? Yes, please!
This sweater was literally one of the easiest pieces I have ever knitted. I am not an expert knitter by any stretch (I leave that to my mother, who actually is an expert knitter and crocheter), so I love when I find a pattern that is easy to follow and also results in a great finished product. And with loose, dolman-sleeve sweaters so popular this year, I have a feeling I’ll be getting a lot of wear out of it in the coming months (and probably a lot of wear out of the ones I’m working on right now).
Stay tuned for a tutorial post later this week on how to make this easy, cozy, and pretty perfect sweater!
