I avoided buying a moto jacket for years. I just couldn’t figure out how to wear one, and I didn’t (and still don’t) think I was edgy enough to pull one off. Don’t get me wrong – I saw them on people all the time and thought they looked fantastic. I just did not think I could ever wear one without looking awkward.
But the appeal of the moto jacket was growing on me and I was starting to cave a bit. I wasn’t really ready for the big commitment of buying an expensive leather jacket (I have never owned one), but then I came across a faux leather one that I couldn’t resist. The price was just that good.
I picked it up before Christmas and I fell in love.
I have worn it with just about everything, but some of my favourite pieces to pair it with are velvet leggings and short dresses. I love the fact that it’s something different in between a cardigan and a blazer to dress things up and quite frankly, keep me warm. And while the looks I think up in my head don’t always translate well in front of the mirror, this particular one did and I absolutely loved it.
This tweed dress is older, but Aritzia currently has some similar pieces, like the Tartine Dress (which is on sale!) that would look just as good with a moto jacket. And while my jacket is no longer available in stores, there are plenty of options out there.
The lesson is, don’t give up on a piece you keep coming back to just because you think you can’t pull it off. Because if you keep thinking about it and gravitating to it, it was probably meant for you.
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
