This fall, I am loving plaid more than anything else. In fact, plaid is the one piece of clothing that is making the thought of winter coming less horrible for me! Plaid is versatile, comfortable, and chic – not to mention warm. It looks great with jeans, skirts, leather leggings and more, and the colourful combinations available will brighten up the dullest cool day. In this post, I’ve pulled together some great plaid options, including links for where to buy them and suggestions for how to pair them with items you already have in your closet.
1.Forever 21 Buffalo Plaid Shirt – It was the colour combination in this buffalo plaid shirt that first drew my eye. The pops of blue and red stand out in the best way because of the larger print and I love that it only has one pocket and a modern slim fit.
2.Forever 21 Tartan Plaid Popover – Popover shirts have such a great, relaxed feel. They look fantastic with skinnies or distressed boyfriend jeans and are a great weekend staple. I love the colours in this one as well.
3.Forever 21 Plaid Shirt Dress – This classic shirt dress would look amazing with tights and riding boots or with sleek leather leggings. Throw on a long cardigan and you have a perfectly layered outfit for late fall (in Edmonton, for sure) and winter.
4.Zara Red Plaid Shirt – I bought this shirt last week and I am in love. It is incredibly soft and the fit is perfect and slim. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’ve paired it with skinny jeans, cut off shorts, and leather leggings. Next, I plan to wear it with my new black midi skirt. Pairing a fitted plaid shirt with a dressier midi skirt is unexpected and chic (and it will probably get a blog post unto itself!).
5.Zara Plaid Long Shirt – Confession: I also bought this one, just a few days before the red one. I am not kidding when I say that I am crushing on plaid this fall! I love that this shirt is just a little bit longer, without being a tunic. I haven’t worn it yet, but that’s mainly because I don’t want to wear all my new fall purchases during the first week of September!
6.Old Navy Plaid Poplin Shirt – Old Navy has some colourful and affordable options, like this mustard, red, and blue version, which is a fun twist on traditional plaid.
7.Old Navy Classic Plaid Shirt – This plaid flannel shirt, perfect for colder days, comes in five great patterns and is priced at $20, which is pretty great.
8.Madewell Oversize Plaid Shirt – If a looser plaid shirt is more your style, this red and blue one from Madewell, available at Nordstrom, is a colouful and fun option. The relaxed fit would look great with distressed boyfriend jeans and booties or ballet flats.
9.Joie ‘Katrine’ Plaid Shirt – A higher priced, but very chic option (also available at Nordstrom), this black and white plaid shirt from Joie is absolutely beautiful.
10.Rails ‘Hunter’ Oversize Plaid Shirt – Rails makes some of the best plaid shirts out there, and this slightly oversize version, which looks great with a half tuck (as pictured above), is no exception. This one is available at Nordstrom, but if you’re in the Edmonton area, Refinery Clothing Co. is a great place to find Rails shirts and many other fantastic pieces.
No matter what style you are looking for, there are lots of great plaid options available at various price points. I hope they make the coming cold a bit more tolerable for you too!
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
