October is at an end, so it’s time to share some of my recent favourite outfits with an Instagram roundup. When I look back on the last month, nearly all of my favourite looks came from the past couple of weeks and were inspired by some of the great street style I’ve seen on Instagram lately. That’s the great thing about sharing your style on social media – not only can you gain inspiration from the great fashionistas out there, but you can inspire others with your own looks.
This October was crazy warm and practically perfect in Edmonton – if only the leaves had stayed on the trees a little bit longer. But, no snow all months means we really don’t have a lot to complain about. Because of the warmer than usual weather, I wasn’t really thinking of cozy knits and layers (or even coats half the time) until later in the month when the temperature began to drop more steadily. Now, it’s time to pull out the sweaters, boots and blanket scarves and pile them all on at once to stay warm!
Although I am already missing early fall and somewhat dreading winter, at least some bright and cozy fashions will keep my mood high and my body warm. Here are the details of some of my favourite October looks:
Sweater – American Eagle Outfitters | Shirt – J. Crew | Leggings – Simons | Boots – Forever 21 | Bag – Burberry
Ok, I finally broke down and picked up some leggings. I am loving longline or tunic sweaters and tops this year and I decided to try pairing them with some comfy leggings and my favourite over the knee boots. But for this outfit, I chose a great neutral sweater I picked up last year at American Eagle Outfitters. Although it is no longer available, there are lots of taupe sweaters in stores like Simons and Nordstrom right now that would work just as well for a similar look. My J. Crew chambray shirt is a closet staple and nearly always available, and these over the knee boots can still be found online at Forever 21, though they are selling out fast!
Shirt – Nordstrom | Leather Leggings – H&M | Blanket Scarf – Garage | Shoes – Tory Burch | Bag – Louis Vuitton | Necklace – Nordstrom
This blanket scarf is pretty close to perfect, and as my Instagram shows, I’ve been wearing it a lot. The colours are nice and bright and it’s a great weight for fall. Although I couldn’t find it in stores this past week, similar styles are still available online. For a slightly chilly (though definitely not as cold as now) day early in the month, I paired it with my much-loved Nordstrom tunic top, leather leggings, some bright flats and a classic bag. Bright pops of colour are definitely important as the days get shorter and darker, so I plan to get lots of wear out my bright accessories, like this scarf.
Shirt – Nordstrom | Jeans – Fidelity | Shawl & Boots – Forever 21 | Bag – Burberry | Necklace – Joe Fresh
This cream tunic from Nordstrom made a lot of appearances this month, but for this outfit, it was perfect with my new Joe Fresh layered necklace. Pearls and gold and layers are always a good idea in my books, and it added just enough detail to make an otherwise understated outfit more exciting. This shawl is still available online and I found a similar style in Hudson Bay recently that was very cute as well. They’re great for keeping warm in chilly offices, and if you’re in a location further south than Edmonton, you can probably still get away with it as a coat for a while!
Coat – Simons | Shirt – Nordstrom | Leather Leggings – Vero Moda | Shoes – Thrifted | Bag – Burberry | Necklace – Forever 21
This gorgeous coat I picked up from Simons back in September is not only warm, but also comfortable and chic. Although it is no longer available, Simons always has the most beautiful coats at a variety of great price points. And I finally found a second pair of leather leggings! I am super picky about these, so it’s taken me a while to find the right pair, but these Vero Moda ones are a bit thinner than my H&M pair and are very comfortable, especially with boots. All black is always chic and elegant, and a few great accessories make this outfit even better.
Looking ahead to November, I’m on a hunt for beautiful longer sweaters that can be dressed up or down and look great with all kinds of pants, leggings, or skirts. And maybe a couple of ugly Christmas sweaters because let’s face it, we all need one of those. ?
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
