The festive season is just around the corner and I’m starting to think about my holiday beauty routine, including what manicure style I want to sport this Christmas. There’s something so clean and polished about a simple, but perfectly done manicure. While it might be nice to head out to the salon, I’m an at home mani kind of girl, so I regularly search out the best new formulas and colours that I can incorporate into my regular nail care routine or pull out for special occasions.
Prim + Proper is a fabulous new nail lacquer collection available exclusively at London Drugs and I was recently able to try out a few holiday-perfect colours. I love bold and dark manicures in the winter, but I also love wearing a lighter shade inspired by sparkling snow, so I chose two shades: Ice Wine, a lovely light blue-white and Bloody Freezing, a rich wine shade. I’ve been alternating both colours since I received them, but I am especially partial to Ice Wine, since my holiday décor is all white, silver, and light blue.
The Prim + Proper Nail Lacquers feature a formula that is 7-free, so it contains no formaldehyde, toluene, camphor, xylene, or other damaging ingredients. The brush is nice and wide, which is a major plus in my opinion. A wide brush allows you to go over the nail fewer times, which results in a more even finish. The light blue shade I chose was quite opaque, which can sometimes end up with a very streaky finish and be hard to work with, but this was not the case with the Prim + Proper polish. The coverage was even and streak-free after just one coat and my nails dried to the touch within about five minutes. I waited for approximately twenty minutes prior to applying the second coat, and was so pleased with the results. The second coat went on smoothly and had a great, even finish with no air bubbles, as can sometimes happen with opaque polish. In fact, of all the opaque colours I have tried with countless brands, the finish with the Prim + Proper polish was by far the best.
This polish has a great consistency – it’s not too heavy or too thin and two coats (with both shades) was the perfect amount. After allowing the second coat to dry for another twenty minutes, I applied the Prim + Proper Nail Lacquer in Clearly Canadian, which is a lovely high-shine top coat. The top coat dried quickly and offered a perfect finish to my completed mani, which lasted seven days, despite me doing a lot of heavy cleaning and using my nails as tools far more than I should have!
While I was very partial to Ice Wine, Bloody Freezing (pictured above) is the perfect dramatic colour for New Years’ Eve and to wear all winter long. I was very impressed that there were no chips or wear along the edges of my nails, a common problem with darker shades, for six days, which is pretty much a record for any polish I’ve tried.
Overall, I absolutely loved the Prim + Proper Nail Lacquer and highly recommend it for your holiday manicure – it’s an extremely user-friendly polish, so even if at home manicures aren’t something you normally try, you can definitely master it this season with Prim + Proper. And it makes a great stocking stuffer or gift for girlfriends, sisters, and moms. Prim + Proper Nail Lacquer is available exclusively at London Drugs and retails for $9.99.
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
