I love to go a bit dramatic with my makeup around the holidays so I was thrilled to receive the NARS x Man Ray holiday collection just in time to test them out for some great holiday looks. Inspired by the stunning visual artwork of modern master Man Ray, this imaginative and fun collection is just what you need during the dark winter months. Find out what I thought about the products I tried below.
Limited Edition Love Game Eyeshadow Palette
This eye palette is so very eye-catching (ha!) and versatile! There are a ton of fun colours to play with and you can create everything from an everyday eye with a little pop of colour all the way to the most dramatic eye look, perfect for New Year’s Eve. The powder formula is super pigmented, blends very well, and lasts all day long (trust me – I’ve been wearing this palette a ton lately, even to work, and it lasts the whole day long). For a daytime look, I love pairing the neutral shades with a bit of bold green (Momentum), bright burgundy (Blind Date), or cool blue (Long Game) as my eyeliner. Momentum and Blind Date in particular really seem to make my green eyes pop! For a more dramatic look, I smudge the copper (Play Me) and gold (Tryst) shades onto my lower lid and crease and line my lashes with the Blind Date. This gorgeous palette is available at Hudson’s Bay.
The Kiss Velvet Matte Lip Crayon Kit
The Kiss Velvet Matte Lip Crayons are my go-to for bold but not overly dramatic lips. The consistency of the formula is fabulous and the range of shades available in this kit are so perfect for fall and winter. Depending on what I’m wearing, I’ve been gravitating to Wild Ways (a limited edition bronze shade that pairs well with fall tones) and Toundra (a mahogany that looks amazing with jewel tones). The limited edition Spell Bound, a light and shimmery (but still matte) pink shade is also lovely on its own or over other shades and Endangered Red is a bold and creamy wine shade that is universally flattering. This lip set comes in a cute gold pouch and would make an amazing stocking stuffer. It is available at Sephora.
Double Take Overexposed Glow Highlighter
You can’t go wrong with a swipe of gold highlighter at the holidays and this one is no exception. Although it looks bold in the packaging (which is STUNNING), it goes on more subtly than one would expect. I’ve been wearing a hint of this limited edition colour on my cheeks for weeks and love the fact that it offers just a hint of shimmer (not sparkle) in a flattering tone. If you’re looking for something more bold, this is not the highlighter I would recommend, but if a hint of highlight is more your style, I definitely recommend it. This is part of the Colour Collection and is available at Sephora, Hudson’s Bay, and Nordstrom.
Love Triangle Mini Lip x Blush Kits
If you’ve ever wanted to try the iconic blush and lipstick, along with so many other classic NARS shades, the mini kits are perfect and they make a fabulous stocking stuffer. Although they are smaller versions of the originals, the blush colours are concentrated enough that a little (especially with Dolce Vita) will go a long way and they will last for a decent amount of time. And the mini lipsticks are the perfect size to throw in a holiday-appropriate clutch! Pairings include the collection, Dolce Vita (blush) and Audrey Audacious Lipstick, and Hot Sand (blush) and Rita Audacious Lipstick. The Love Triangle Mini Kits are available at a variety of locations, including Hudson’s Bay, Sephora, Murale, Shoppers Drug Mart (limited shades), and Nordstrom.
The Colour Collection Photogloss Lip Lacquer
Kiki is a bold burgundy shade that looks great on its own and even better over the Endangered Red Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, especially if you prefer a glossy look over a matte finish. I will say that this one bleeds quite badly on my lips, no matter what I try to do, but I love the shade so much, I sort of ignore it. I would definitely recommend a lip liner with it to help with bleeding, as well as steering clear of it if you happen to have drier lips when you go to wear it (it’s definitely lip balm season). Off Limits is a bright and shimmering fuchsia that in all honesty, at my age, is not super wearable. However, if bright and bold pinks are your thing, then this one is definitely a winner. This limited edition formula is available at Sephora, Hudson’s Bay and Nordstrom.
This holiday collection is definitely gorgeous and while it appears big and bold from the outset, the individual pieces are so very wearable, both now and after the holiday season. I know which ones are my faves – but which would you like to see under the Christmas tree? Leave me a comment below and let me know your thoughts!
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
