If there’s one time of year that I want to wear ALLLLL the plaid, it’s in November and December. Yes, I wear it at other times (usually in the fall) but I just cannot resist a good plaid shirt or scarf around the holidays. There is something so cozy and holiday-appropriate about a colourful plaid shirt, whether you dress it up with a fancy skirt, or pair it with the comfiest skinny jeans and a long cardigan. They keep you warm and looking stylish in the midst of the coldest, shortest days.
I recently found the most perfect white plaid shirt (and a couple of others – Black Watch in particular) at Old Navy and couldn’t resist pairing it with a long forest green cardigan. Forest green is a favourite shade of mine, but it can be hard to find – except at this time of year. I have been struggling to find a forest green crewneck sweater (preferable cable knit, but at this point, I’ll take just about any kind of forest green sweater), but there have been a few more options in cardigans, like this long version, also from Old Navy.
I also found a shorter version that is quite lovely as well and it available in Canada and the US.
For this look, I paired the plaid and forest green with my favourite vegan leather leggings (they are seriously the best – read more here) and the charcoal booties I recently snagged, again at Old Navy. Like I said in a previous post – I find Old Navy can be hit or miss, but this fall in particular, I’m loving the styles they’ve been carrying (I can’t wait until the end of the month to use my SuperCash on new PJs and loungewear!). I added a simple pearl necklace and a classic black bag to round out the look.
To dress this pretty plaid up, I would switch out the vegan leather leggings for my favourite structured satin skirt or a pair of sequin leggings for even more fun (honestly, wearing sequin leggings has got to be one of the best parts of the holidays!!). The great thing about a classic plaid shirt like this is just how many options you really have when it comes to styling it. And I can’t wait to re-style the Black Watch plaid version I picked up as well, as seen on my Instagram.
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
