Before the holidays, I shared my experience with Irresistible Me Hair Extensions and I promised a follow-up post featuring some of the ways I like to wear my clip-in hair extensions. I have had so much fun incorporating the Irresistible Me extensions to add some much needed volume and length to some of my favourite hairstyles.
As I mentioned in the previous post, wearing and styling the extensions took some practice and some getting used to. I still feel that I am not the best at incorporating them into long styles, but practice makes perfect and I have definitely seen an improvement in how I blend and style them. So today, I’m sharing some of my favourite styles to date, as well as tips for how to get the best from your extensions.
Long and Loose Waves
I have been dying for long, loose waves for YEARS. Without extensions, this style looks much less dramatic, but with extensions, I have the volume and length I’ve always wanted. I used a large barrel curling iron (my favourite is the Hot Tools 1 1/4 inch iron) on my hair and on the extensions to get loose curls that gradually turned into waves as the day went on. For the first look, I used two sets of three clip Irresistible Me extensions, two sets of two clips, two sets of one clip, and the largest four clip piece. I’ll be honest – about four hours in, I pulled out the largest piece. It is just too much for my fine hair to handle, but that is part of the learning process.
For the second style and third styles, I used the same pieces as above, minus the large four clip piece, and I was able to keep them in all day with no discomfort. I love that this style is a bit straighter than the first one, which featured loose curls all over.
Since taking these photos, I’ve learned a few things that you may want to keep in mind. One, the extensions I chose really were too long for me. I thought I wanted much longer hair, but in reality, I only want a bit more length than I actually have; the main benefit of extensions for me is the added volume and thickness. So I had the main extension pieces I use trimmed to be only slightly longer than my current natural hair length and now, they are perfect. (I left the others long, for the occasions where I might want more length.) Second, less is more for me, at least when my hair is worn down long. I now use two three clip pieces (the easiest way to wear them is to clip two three clip wefts together) and two two clip pieces (trimmed in length, as I previously mentioned) and I love the way they look with my hair. The look is natural, but full, and that’s exactly what I wanted.
You know your girl loves a good topknot and adding just a few Irresistible Me extensions made my topknot even more over-the-top! My number one recommendation when it comes to adding extensions to your topknot is to clip them in upside down – yes, you heard me right, upside down. To do so, I flip my hair over (which is also how I get a high topknot, so two bids, one stone), clip the extensions in the opposite way you normally would and smooth the bottom layer of hair over them before creating your knot. Voila! You instantly have a bigger, better topknot.
In the first two images, I used the four clip piece (turns out again, that this is too much for my hair – it actually hurt), but in the third and fourth images, I used a couple of three clip pieces together to get more oomph without any head discomfort.
The Romantic Roll
My second favourite way to wear my hair up is actually rolled up just off the nape of my neck. I often wear this style on day two or three of a curly style, but I love it even more with some additional volume via the Irresistible Me extensions. For this particular style, I used two three clip wefts and two two clip wefts, all placed more towards to back of my head. I then gathered by hair into a low ponytail, and after securing the elastic, created a space in the middle of my hair, just above the elastic, then looped the ponytail through to create a twist at the top (remember the Topsytail?). I twisted my ponytail through the loop once again, then pinned the ends underneath to create the roll at the back. This style is so simple to do, though my description may not be, so I’ve linked to a Pinterest pin have with full instructions here.
The Low Ponytail
I’ve never been a huge fan of the low ponytail, mostly because I don’t have enough hair to make one really worthwhile! But with the Irresistible Me extensions, a low, side-swept ponytail looks elegant and chic. I used two three clip extensions and two two clip pieces for this style, curling the hair loosely to give the ends more interest. I then pulled all of my hair into a low ponytail on one side, wrapped the elastic with a small piece of hair an pinned it underneath, before allowing the ends of the ponytail to drape down one side of my neck. This style is so simple for the workday.
A quick note about static electricity – this is about the time of year that my fine hair really starts to struggle with static and I will say that the combination of woolly sweaters and extensions makes that static a bit worse. But I do have some tips to share:
- When your extensions start to get unruly because of static, it’s a definite sign you need to wash and condition them. They will dry out a lot faster than your natural hair, since they don’t have the benefit of natural scalp oils for moisture. Use your preferred shampoo and conditioner and wash them gently. Irresistible Me also has step by step instructions to care for your extensions – definitely use them.
- Use a spray or foam leave-in conditioner like Infusium 23 or my personal favourite Joico K-Pak Leave-In Protectant on your natural hair.
- Avoid wearing them down long with fabrics like polyester or acrylic – artificial fabrics like these tend to increase static this time of year. This tip also applies to your natural hair.
- In a pinch, swipe a dryer sheet over your hair to reduce static.
Although I still have lots to learn and lots to try, these are some of my favourite ways to wear my Irresistible Me clip-in extensions so far. I love that just a few pieces take some of my favourite styles and make them even better and I can’t wait to create and share even more looks with my Irresistible Me extensions!
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
