I have always wanted longer, thicker hair. As I mentioned in my curly hair tutorial, I was blessed (cursed, more like) with very fine hair. I have a lot of it, but even a ton of fine hair can be extremely difficult to grow and style. I had resigned myself years ago to the fact that a bob was probably the only hairstyle that would ever really look right with my fine hair and I’ve had various iterations of it over the years: the “regular bob”, the angled bob (thanks to Victoria Beckham, and honestly, still one of my favourite styles to date), the long bob (turns out blunt ends ARE a better idea for my hair than I ever thought) – if it was a bob, I’ve had it.
But no matter how I managed to style my hair or how many compliments I got, when I was starting out in the blogging world, I still looked at all those successful bloggers with their beautiful, long locks so enviously. I wondered and wondered HOW they all had such perfect, thick and long hair?!? And then I did little digging and found out that many of them use extensions to add volume and length to their locks. Say WHAT?
I have contemplated getting extensions many times but hesitated to do so because a) the expense is not something to laugh at and b) I worried that they would damage my hair. Then I started researching clip-in extensions, a favourite among bloggers, which provide all of the benefits with no damage, less commitment, and a more reasonable cost. So when the opportunity to try out Irresistible Me clip-in hair extensions came up, I jumped at the chance to give them a whirl. These extensions are 100% human Remy hair, which means that you can style them like you would your natural hair. Curl them, straighten them, wash them and dry them – they work just like the hair you were born with.
The process of selecting the extensions was much more straightforward than I expected. The Irresistible Me site includes a description of the various types of extensions available and how they add to your natural hair, allowing you to choose the style that best suits your needs. Once you decide which type of extensions you prefer, there is a very informative video on choosing the right colour for your extensions. I highly recommend checking this out, as it was extremely helpful when I was choosing my colour. Then it’s a matter of selecting the length – Irresistible Me offers extensions from 14 inches to 24 inches long, so you can decide whether to add a bit of length or a lot of length to your hairstyle.
After reviewing all of the available colours and products, I went with the Silky Touch in Medium Brown (4) at 18 inches long and a weight of 200 g. This set came with one piece that had 4 clips, two pieces that have 3 clips, five pieces that have 2 clips, and two pieces that have 1 clip, as pictured below.
A few of my early observations:
The colour and quality of the hair is better than I expected; it is so silky and soft! Having never tried extensions before, I actually wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was very happy when I took them out of the box. The extensions matched my hair perfectly, so much so that my friends thought I had dyed them to match my hair colour, but there was no need at all. The package includes a test extension that you must open first to ensure it is a match to your hair. Once you confirm the colour is right, you are ready to go.
As I mentioned, the extensions come in a number of pieces (called wefts), varying in size from one clip to four clips for the largest piece. Like many other users, I do not use all of the extensions at once, as it is just too much for my poor head and fine hair to handle. Thicker hair can handle more of the clips from what I have researched. But this is why I love the Irresistible Me extensions – I have the flexibility to use the pieces I want to and to omit any that aren’t working for my particular style and I love having that flexibility.
The length is lovely, but in retrospect, I would have chosen the 16 inch extensions rather than 18 inch. This is largely because I am not very good at styling my hair and the extensions are about 4 inches longer than my hair, which is a bit more bluntly cut, and I have some trouble getting them to blend properly. Some gals are much better at incorporating their extensions than I am, but that’s probably because I’m not as talented at doing my hair as I’d like (hence my surprise at actually posting a hair tutorial).
What I love most is the added volume and body the extensions give me. They make my hair look so much more bouncy and pretty and I love that. I love that they even make a simple ponytail look so much more elegant and pretty. Although I find they are a bit longer than I can handle (and that was my own choice), I do adore them and I plan to bring them to my next hair appointment to have a little bit trimmed off and maybe get some advice on incorporating them better with my natural hair. In the meantime, I’ve found a few styles that I love using them for, including my favourite topknot!
I am a huge fan of the Irresistible Me clip-in extensions and I do highly recommend them to anyone who has been contemplating extensions of any kind. They are an easy, low-commitment way to get the hairstyles you have always dreamed of and the quality of the product combined with the price point is really wonderful. Right now, they are featuring an amazing sale, so if you have been thinking about it, now is the time to pick some up.
