There are some beauty products you come across that become necessities – a good face powder, a classic lipstick, the perfect foundation. I like to switch things up a bit to vary my makeup routine, but there are a few products that I keep (or will be keeping) in my cosmetic case at all time because they are just that good. Today I’m sharing four of my favourites: two regular standbys, one forgotten but recently revived, and one brand new one.
Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder
My fight against oily skin continues and of all the pressed powders I’ve tried, this one is by far my most loved. I use this powder over my foundation in my t-zone only – my cheeks rarely need any powder to keep my makeup looking fresh. But my t-zone is another story, and this powder not only helps me control the oil, but it also gives a bit more coverage on my nose. I tend to apply very little foundation here because of the oiliness, so a bit of extra coverage is always great. I also love that it doesn’t come with an unnecessary puff – I prefer to apply all my powder with a brush, for less cake-y coverage. At $7.99, this powder is always in my makeup bag, both at home and in my purse.
MAC Satin Lipstick in Rebel
It’s true what they say – this colour is literally perfection. It looks amazing on all skin tones and has a creamy consistency that leaves my lips feeling great and never dried out. I apply it over lip balm when I wanted a lighter shade or I use a bit of gloss over it to add shine. However I wear it, as I mentioned in this post, I absolutely love it. This lipstick, which should be in every makeup bag come in at about $20.
The Forgotten One:
L’Oreal Voluminous Original Mascara in Blackest Black
I forgot how much I adored this mascara and I am so sorry for that. I recently went searching for a new mascara that would help to thicken my lashes. I am loving a very basic eye look that emphasizes the lashes these days, and a great mascara is key to making it pop. After staring at so many different tubes, and considering some much more expensive options, I decided to give the L’Oreal Voluminous Original Mascara a try again and I am so glad I did. It applies easily, comes off easily (so long as you don’t chose the waterproof version, which I didn’t) and it instantly made my lashes look so much thicker. At under $10, it’s a fantastic steal.
The New Treasure:
Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Brightening Concealer
I generally stay away from concealers. To be honest, I’ve never really felt the need for one, and I tend to use my foundation and a spot cover up. But I’ve also noticed that my under eye circles are becoming a bit more obvious and I thought a little brightening might help. I came across the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Brightening Concealer on the weekend and thought I would give it a try. It immediately brightened the area under my eyes in a way the YSL Touche Éclat just could not do. I am hooked, and given that it’s about an eighth of the price of the YSL standard, I just don’t see how you can go wrong.
I love the way these products look on their own, as well as together. They brighten my face, control shine, and make my eyes pop, which is the look I was hoping to achieve. The fact that most of them are real beauty steals is even better.
Enjoy the pretty things in life,
